Question: I need to travel from Xiamen to Yiwu. What is the distance between the two cities? How can one go? Also how far away is Yiwu from Beijing and how should we make the trip from Yiwu to Beijing? I have about to two days for Beijing? What can I see during these two days? Many thanks for your reply.

Update 2022. By high-speed G trains, travel time between Xiamen and Yiwu is a little over 5 hours.

Answer: There is air service from Xiamen to Yiwu. Flights, however, are not on daily basis; they're on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Flight time is a little over one hour. The airport that serves Xiamen is Gaoqi Airport. Yiwu Airport is a short distance outside the city.

You can also travel by train from Xiamen to Yiwu. Two trains depart from Xiamen and go in the direcction of Yiwu (one train's final stop is Shanghai and the other Hangzhou, both cities north of Yiwu). One train leaves in the morning and arrives in Yiwu early next morning. The other train departs in the late evening and arrives in Yiwu the following evening. Train ride time is 20 hours. Get sleeping berths for the trip. Train travel is a little less expensive than flying.

By highway, distance between Xiamen and Yiwu is about 800 km (500 ml). One can travel by long distance, but it is going to be a rather long journey, about 10 hours or so. Some long-distance buses in China also have sleeping berths, but passengers are confined to a rather small space for a long ride.

From Yiwu to Beijing it approximately 1,750 kilometers or 1,090 miles. You can travel by train; train ride time is 21 hours. If you choose to fly, there are daily flights from Yiwu to Beijing. Flight time is an hour and forty minutes.

If you're not planning to say in Xiamen or Yiwu for very long, you need to think about getting your tickets in advance. Train or flight tickets may be hard to come by.

If you have two days in Beijing, you can probably cover most of the well-known attractions. One day in the city to tour sites such as Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, and possibly the Summer Palace in the suburbs. On the second day you can do a quick tour of a couple of more sites in the city and then head out for the Great Wall. In the evening, have a Peking duck dinner and take a walk in some shopping areas such as Wangfujing or Xidan.
