Ferry from Hong Kong to Shantou, China

Q: Can you tell me whether there is still a ferry from Hong Kong to Shantou, China? If so, how can I make a reservation for a date in September. Thank you.

Chu Kong Passenger Transport, based in Hong Kong, operate ferry services between Hong Kong and some ports of mainland China. Shantou, however, does not seem to be one of their destiantions. You can try to call them for further information: 2549-9560 or 2857-6625, or try their web site here: http://www.cksp.com.hk/eng/home.html

Nowadays most people seem to travel from Hong Kong to Shantou by land or by air. By coach it is a trip of about six hours. At some hotels in Hong Kong you can probably find buses that go directly from Hong Kong to Shantou. If not, you can always first take a bus from Hong Kong to the Luohu (Lo Wu) Border Cross, which borders Shenzhen on the mainland China side. After clearing the border check, you'll see Shantou-bound buses, which depart every half an hour or so.

China Southern Airlines operates flight service between Hong Kong Airport and Shantou Waisha Airport. Flight time is one hour. Shantou Airport is about 10 km from the city center.
