How to travel from Beijing to Wenzhou, Yiwu and Shanghai

Q: I wish to attend the CIOF the China International Opticals Fair in Beijing in Sept 2008. After that I wish to go to Wenzhou the base of spectacle industry. From Wenzhou I will travel to Yiwu and then to Shanghai. Please suggest me the ways to travel.

From Beijing to Wenzhou you can travel either by plane or train. Air China, China Eastern, Shenzhen Airline and Hainan Airine all operate flights between Beijing Capital International Airport and Yongqiang Airport outside Wenzhou. Flight times is approximately two and half an hour. Fare varies depending how you book your flights; a one-way trip costs about 1,100 Chinese dollars.

There is one train that connects Beijing and Wenzhou. The train departs from Beijing around midnight and arrives in Wenzhou late afternoon the next day - a trip of 30 hours. You definitely should get a sleeping berth if you choose to travel by train. The distance covered is over 2,000 km. A sleeping berth on the train costs about 600 Chinese dollars. Train tickets may be hard to come by, so you should look into the matter in advance. A travel agent or your hotel may help you to secure the ticket you need.

The distance between Wenzhou and Yiwu is 300 km. You can travel either by long distance coach or by train. Train ride time is 5 to 6 hours. A bus ride from Wenzhou to Yiwu lasts 3 to 4 hours.

Shanghai is roughly the same distance from Yiwu as Yiwu is from Wenzhou. Again, you can travel by train or bus to make this last leg of your journey.
