Travel to Shantou / Chaozhou
Q: My flight from NY to Hong Kong lands at 2:15 pm. What is the best and fastest way to get to Shantou/Chaozhou. The direct flight from HKG to Shantou leaves before my flight lands. Please help.
A number of companies in Hong Kong operate coach services from Hong Kong to various destiantions in Guangdong Province on the mainland. It is not clear, however, if these companies provide services to Shantou and Chaozhou. You may contact the following companies for further information:

Alternatively, you can first travel across border from Hong Kong to Shenzhen on the mainland side and then continue your trip from there. From Hong Kong Airport to Shenzhen it is a trip of about an hour, by bus or train. Right on the other side of the Luohu (Lo Wu) border check-point, at Luohu Long Distance Bus Station (Luohu Qiche Zhan), you should find many Shantou-bound buses. The distance from Shenzhen to Shantou is about 350 km, and it a bus ride of 4 to 5 hours. Buses depart from Luohu every half an hour or so. The latest bus departs around 20:00. If everythibg goes well, you can make it to Shantou late in the evening.
There is also a train that goes from Shenzhen to Shantou, but it departs around 3:00 in the afternoon - you won't be able to catch it. In any event, railway follows a circuitous route and the train ride lasts longer than the bus ride by 2-3 hours or so.
There are late flights from Guangzhou Baiyun Airport to Shantou Waisha Airport, which depart around 18:00 and 23:00. Flight time is about one hour. If you decide that this is worth the trouble, you need to figure out how to get from Hong Kong to Baiyun Airport in time.
