Beijing Subway Logo
This is the sign for Beijing Subway. It is evidently based on the letters "B" and "Jing", but it also shows the initial layout of the Beijing underground transportation system. For about 20 years, back in the 1970s and 1980s, there were only two subway lines in Beijing (and they were the only ones in China). One of these two lines goes around central Beijing, in the shape of a square, and the other is a direct line that goes east-west through the city. The symbol for the subway system illustrates that original structure. Currently there are nine subway (city rail) lines in Beijing, including one that connects Beijing to the Beijing International Airport.
