Q: I wish to travel from 1) Shanghai to Yiwu. 2) Further from Yiwu I wish to go to Wenzhou and 3) finally from Wenzhou to Shanghai. Kindly suggest me appropriate mode. Is air - Rail - Road what is advised on each sector with approximate travel time required and cpproximate charges. Thanks.
You can travel from Shanghai to Yiwu either by train or long distance coach. If you go by train, depending on which train you are on, the trip lasts anywhere from 2.5 hours to 5 hours. The fare is about 100 Chinese dollars. If you go by bus, the distance covered is 380 km and travel time should be 3 to 4 hours. Bus fare is roughly the same as a train ticket. Buses depart for Yiwu frequently during the day. They depart from several long distance bus stations in Shanghai, including Qiche Keyun Zong Zhan (Long Dinstance Bus General Station), which is close to Shanghai Railway Station.
From Yiwu to Wenzhou you can also travel by train or bus. Train travel time is 4.5 to 5.5 hours. If you travel by bus, the trip takes 4 hours or so, maybe a little less.
To get back from Wenzhou to Shanghai, you can go by train, bus, or plane. Train ride time is 9 to 11 hours. Distance covered is rouhgly 650 km. Need to get a sleeping berth to travel comfortably, especially if yours is an overnight train. In that case, fare is in the range of 200-240 yuan. Bus would cost a little less. If you fly, flight time is about an hour. Airfare varies a great deal depending on when you book, etc.; roughly it is about three times as much as a sleeping berth on a train. The airport that serves Wenzhou is Yongqiang Airport. There are flights from Yongqiang Airport to both Hongqiao Airport and Pudong Airport of Shanghai.
