High-Speed Train between Lanzhou and Urumqi Will Conduct Test Runs

By the end of this year, there will be high-speed train service between Lanzhou and Urumqi. This is if everything goes according to plan.

Starting in the middle of May, train operators will conduct test runs on China's most recently completed fast-train rail between Lanzhou Urumqi. The new rail line connects two largest cities in the remote northwestern part of China. Measureed 1,776 km (1,104 mi) in length, the new rail line will offer the firstt high-speed train service into the Xinjiang Urghur Autonomous Region. Urumqi is the capital city of Xinjiang and Lanzhou is the capital of Gansu Province. The new rail will also stop in Xining, the capital of Qinghai Province, which lies between Xinjiang and Gansu.

According to plan, average speed for the Lanzhou-Urumqi fast trains will be above 200 km per hour (124 mi per hour). This is not the highest speed there is insofar as fast trains go, but it will significantly reduce train ride time between Lanzhou and Urumqi - from the current 20 hours to approximately 8 hours.
