Chinese Cities Where Transit-Through Travelers Can Stay Up to 72 Hours Visa-Free

As of April 2014, seven Chinese cities allow foreign travelers to stay in the cities for up to 72 hours without visa if the travelers are transiting through to a third country. The cities are:

  • Beijing (Beijing Capital International Airport)
  • Chengdu (Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport)
  • Chongqing (Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport)
  • Dalian (Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport)
  • Guangzhou (Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport)
  • Shanghai (Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport)
  • Shenyang (Shenyang Taoxian International Airport)

In April 2014, the city of Xi'an was added to the list of the Chinese cities that allow 72-hour visa-free transit. Policy will be implemented within the year. The airport for the city is Xi‘an Xianyang International Airport.

The visa-free transit policy applies only to citizens of certain countries. Currently the countries are the following:
