Direct Flights from Chengdu to London, Paris and Frankfurt to Be Launched
Chengdu, the provincial capital of Sichuan, is becoming increasingly important as an air travel hub for Southwest China. Several direct flights from the city to various destinations in Europe will be launched by the end of 2013.
Starting on May 19 Air China will operate services from Chengdu to Frankfurt, three flights per week, on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday. Flight time will be 10 hours. In February British Airways announced its new thrice-a-week services between Chengdu and London, which will start on September 22. The Chengdu-based Sichuan Airlines has also announced that its own plan for services between Chengdu and Paris, scheduled to start in June.
Earlier this year Sichuan Airlines started to provide direct services from Chengdu to Melbourne, Australia, and Doha, Qatar.
