Over 27 Million Foreign Travelers Visited China in 2012

According to the data released by China's National Bureau of Tourism Administration, 27.19 million travelers from abroad visited China in the year 2012. Of the visitors, approximately 11 million came to China for leisure and sightseeing; 6 million traveled to China for business and conferences; close to 3 million were workers and crew; and about 6 million reported travel for other purposes.

In terms of nationality, the greatest number of visitors came from Asian countries such as Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore. Outside Asia, about 3 million visitors were from the United States and Canada, and close to 6 million were citizens of European countries, including 2 million Russians.

As for destinations in China, Shanghai was the most frequented city, followed by Beijing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Chengdu, Wuhan, Dalian, Guilin, Nanjing, Xian, Huangshan, Qingdao, and Kunming.
