Forbidden City Will Be Closed to Tourists Monday Afternoon from Jan through March
In 2012 over 15 million tourists the Imperial Forbidden City in Bejing, averaging 40,000 per day. Now the management at the Palace Museum has decided to give the popular tourist attraction a half-day reprieve every week so that their workers can better maintain the historical site. The policy is experimental and will be in place from January 1 to March 31, which is off season for the Forbidden City.
By the new policy, the Palace Museum will be closed to visitors Monday afternoons. The days affected are January 7, 14, 21, and 28; February 4, 18, and 25; March 4, 11, 18, and 25. On these days the Forbidden City will open at 8:30 am, stop selling tickets at 11:00 am, and close at noon. February 11 is a Monday but it is also part of the Spring Festival Holiday, so on this day the Palace Museum will keep its normal full-day hours, which, during the period from November 1 to March 31, are opening at 8:30, tickets sold until 15:30, admission until 15:30, and closing at 14:30.
