Police Announces New Traffic Rule for Automobiles Going Through Intersections

As those who have been in China know, crossing street can be quite a challenge as automobiles and pedestrians often compete for right of the way. To deal with the issue, Chinese police has announced a new policy, to the effect that drivers should not take a yellow light as a light for stop. In other words, they should not attempt to run through an intersection once a yellow has come up, unless  their vehicles are in the intersection alread, partially or completely.

Some drivers have complained about the new policy, saying that it is difficult to stop suddenly on seeing a yellow light. Authorities, however, consider running through yellow lights an increasing problem and a very dangerous practice. It is also pointed out that traffict lights at many intersections come with timers that display count-down for light-changes, which should alert drivers approaching intersections.
