Beijing Opens New Subway Lines
Beijing Subway has just launched services on four new rail lines. These additions, which include sections of Lines 6, 8, 9, and 10, bring the total mileage of Beijing Subway to 442 km.
Of the new routes, Line 6 runs through the heart of Beijing in the west-east direction, a little north of, and parallel to, the old Line 1. Line 8, which has been serving the Olympic Park, is extended on both ends and now runs between Huilongguan in the northern suburb and Gulou Dajie in Central Beijing. Line 9 lies in the western part of the city, connecting the National Library in the north and stations in Fengtai District to the South. Line 10, whidch is designed as a larger loop, has now encircled much of the city, with only a small gap in the southwestern corner to be closed up in 2013.
According to Beijing Subway, on their first day of full service, Lines 6, 8, 9, and 10 transported a total of 1.18 million passengers.
