2011 Spring Festival Holiday Begins on February 2

The Year of Tiger will soon leave us and the Year of Rabbit is just around the corner. Wednesday, February 2, is the lunar New Year's Eve, and the Chinese will officially start their Spring Festival Holiday then.

The holiday lasts seven days, beginning on Wednesday, February 2, and continuing through Tuesday, February 8. To make this week-long holiday, January 30 (Saturday) and February 12 (Sunday) , are converted into business days.

Traditionally members of Chinese families spend the eve of the lunar New Year together, partaking in a lavish dinner that includes dumplings. The  following day is the time to pay visits to friends and relatives nearby to wish them good fortune in the new year. By old customs, the Spring Festival celebration continues all the way to the fifth of the lunar month, when the end of the seasonal revelry is marked with firework shows and lantern fairs at night.
